WEEK 3.5

Some things get lost in translation — and apparently the English-to-Spanish-to-inglespañol is taking its toll on this father of the elder. Sorry for the slack-itude!

Elder Max is having a fantastic experience. The humor is probably geographical (“had to be there”) in nature, but a good time is being had by all.

Whoo!

The weeks are flying by! I leave for México two weeks from Monday! ¿¡Qué!?

I’m feeling much better, thank you. Faith is amazing.

Thanks for the pictures! I’ll be sending some too.

I wanted to tell you guys about how funny this MTC is. My favorite district just left this last Monday, but everyone in it was hilarious. Elders L and A would translate whatever they wanted, with no care for accuracy or if it could be translated literally. Por ejemplo. “¿Pues, pues, pues, que tenemos aquí?” = “Well, well, well, what do we have here?” “¿Quiere morir?” = “Do you want to die?”. A few translations by my hand include “¡Rompa un movimiento!” which means “Bust a move!” also, “¿Quiere luchar?” which is “You wanna fight?” And there was much rejoicing.

Elder L also translated THE ENTIRE “I Have a Dream” speech, and would do it from the balcony of his classroom. He purchased a retractable baton thing and would point at body parts of Elder A and say them in Spanish, as if teaching a class. Probably my favorite moment, though, is when Hermano C, one of our teachers, was telling us about a girl he had been dating who dumped him to go on a mission. He informed us that they had talked about marriage, at which point Elder B, who is 100% Idaho (try to imagine accurate Spanish words and conjugations, with 0 attempt at a correct accent), said, after a brief pause “But she said ‘no bueno’”. I was crying from laughing so hard.

Anyway, things are good, Elder McQuivey and I are on fire (as in the baptism thereof, referring to the Holy Ghost) and we’ve committed like 3 of our 4 fake investigators to baptism. It’s so cool to teach with the Spirit and to be able to be told what to say, when to challenge them to read/pray, or what scripture will address their question. Mom, you would be an awesome missionary, and I hope you get that opportunity.

Love you guys,

Elder Webb
