On mission life and all its attendant ups and downs (bonus 3-sentence horror story included!):
3 November 2014
Hello loved ones!
Probably. I don’t actually know who reads this.
Some quick observations:
- I’m used to
taking cold showers! Or, if I’m not used to it, I know how (there’s a lot of
core-flexing involved, and it’s important to control your breathing)
- Ticks are
insanely hard to kill. I don’t have any, but there’s a dog I try to help out
when they’re not embedded in his skin. I stepped on it like 6 times, and it
looked dead, but after like 30 seconds, it got up and started walking again.
That’s right, ticks can lie.
- Here are some
words Spanish just doesn’t have: STAND, LOUD, JUST
- I wish I could
explain to these little latina girls the irony of dressing up like Snow White
- Cockroaches swim, they fly, and they don’t walk/crawl; they SPRINT. I’ve grown to respect them, though, because they’re kind of like the Navy Seals of insects. I have no doubt they could survive a nuclear war.
Have you heard about those
3-sentence horror stories? Well, this is my attempt:
It was Halloween. None
of the members were home. There was nowhere to go but the Mexican public
restroom.
True story. It’s better
with your imaginations, so I’ll spare you the details.
Some housekeeping: I found
out the Christmas call will be on either the 23, or the 24, of December, but
specifically NOT CHRISTMAS. I don’t know why.
My investigators are good,
too! Diana y Reyna are set to be baptized this Saturday. Reyna is super
excited, and Diana finally feels ready. Diana’s brother, Carlos, a recent
convert, has been having a hard time, and we’ve been trying to fortify him, and
he came to church this week! Also in attendance, La familia Capitanachi, who
have been inactive for literally years (we have proof in the area book. They
have been being visited since at least 2008). And they attended all three
hours! This week, none of our constant investigators attended, so we’re going
to be making some visits this week (picture me saying this like a mob boss, and
like I mean a lot more than just the words I’m saying). We actually had kind of
a rough week this week for teaching. It was Halloween and El Día de los
Muertos, so lots of people were gone. We’ve got some good appointments set up
this week, so hopefully they happen according to plan.
Ok. I love you guys, I
pray for you, thanks for your prayers, and keep the faith.
Élder Webb
