GENESIS

A day in the life:
Hello hello hello!!! It’s January 26th! I owe a “happy birthday” to my best friend, Joe. I actually don’t remember if his is the 16th or the 27th — one of those is his birthday, and the other is the birthday of Mozart. He used to celebrate them equally. If you know Joe, that makes sense. If you don’t, you should meet him. He’s good people.

I thought I’d take you through my day here in Matamoros 2. I wake up at 6:30 and fall off the top bunk, because the ladder only has one step. I walk about 16 inches to our main room so I can do some pushups/sit-ups at the same time as 3 other missionaries. I shower, I get ready, I eat either oatmeal or a sandwich because we don’t have a fridge, and I start my studies.

We study for an hour, the four of us sing hymns and read from the Missionary Manual or something, because I don’t speak English. We plan our lessons, study more, study Spanish, eat lunch (sandwich or oatmeal, this time), and leave the apartment.

If we don’t have appointments, we contact our references, or knock on doors. People are either very receptive and open to the message of the Restoration, or they’re Catholic. I don’t say that to be judgmental. We introduce ourselves and then they say “I’m Catholic” and close the door, and that’s that.

If we have appointments, we teach them something about the Gospel (it’s usually true) and invite them to be baptized. Usually, if they accept baptism, we never see them again, and if they say no, they ask us to come back every day. I dunno.

We go to the house of a member to eat (for some reason, it’s usually chicken and rice. We got more variety in Buena Vista 2), then leave and knock on doors and teach until 9. We get back to the house, plan our day, I practice piano, write in my journal, eat dinner (oatmeal AND a sandwich) and then go to sleep.

In short, I love my mission. The time is flying, I’m meeting great people, (even if I’m not great about sharing who they are or anything at all about them).

Also, one time, I swallowed a fly. I can’t believe I forgot about that. I was walking, I yawned, and a fly flew right into my mouth and to the back of my throat. It was really gross. I had to buy a cupcake.

Also, there’s a really good fresh-bread store close to the chapel, so sometimes the sacrament bread is beautifully fresh-baked (or from the day before; it’s the Sabbath.)

Anyways. I love you guys. Read the Book of Mormon. It will answer your questions.

Love
Élder Webb
